Join Us June 28
You are invited to join us for our monthly Veteran networking breakfast. This networking event is a forum for military Veterans in business and those who support them, or wish to team with them, to meet and connect. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to network with other Veterans committed to success in business.
Although the focus of the ORP is on the connections made between and with Veterans, we do have a speaker each month. Our speaker in June is Douglas Kay, a Principal attorney at Offit Kurman who practices in the area of civil litigation. Doug is a former Navy Judge Advocate General (JAG) who has had a long distinguished record of representing clients in litigation matters. Doug is currently the president of the Fairfax County Bar Association, a voluntary professional organization with more than 2,000 attorneys practicing in Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Maryland. Doug is particularly skilled in diagnosing and solving problems in their earliest stages and has a proven track record of avoiding costly and unnecessary litigation.
Doug is going to educate attendees on the “Non Agreements.” The “Non Agreements” include the Non-Disclosure Agreement, the Non-Solicitation Agreement and the Non-Compete Agreement. Although sometimes separate agreements these are often incorporated into other agreements like teaming agreements and subcontracts. The Non-Agreements are some of the most often litigated agreements that business-owners encounter. Doug is going to discuss what makes an enforceable agreement, how to avoid litigation through the use of enforceable agreements and how to win if litigation is unavoidable.
Don’t pass up this opportunity to network with other Veterans focused on success in business. If you are a company looking for a VOSB or SDVOSB to team with there is no better place to find qualified Veteran owned businesses than at ORP.
ORP is hosted by Lee Dougherty, a service connected disabled Veteran and Principal at Offit Kurman, Attorneys at Law.

Although the focus of ORP is on the connections made between and with Veterans, we do have a presentation each month. This month we have a panel from the Small Business Administration (SBA) speaking about resources available to Veteran business owners. The panel will include senior members of the SBA and partners of the SBA. As the SBA members of the panel are identified we will update this site.
There are a plethora of resources available to Veterans both in starting their businesses and in assistance in finding ways to grow larger, more successful companies. Our panel will discuss many of those programs and resources to include counseling, training, access to capital and contracting opportunities at the SBA. Don’t miss this very valuable morning. Whether you are a start-up or you have been in business for decades, there are resources to help you become more successful and more profitable in business.

Ranger Rally before the Race
Are you a Ranger coming to DC for the Army Ten-Miler? Do you live in the area and need a lift in spirit that can only come from hanging out with fellow Rangers?
Whether you are coming to town for the Army Ten-Miler or live in the area, on October 8th join Army Rangers, current and past, for an evening of carb loading (beer) and fun the night before the race. The Army Ranger Lead the Way Fund, the preeminent charity in support of the 75th Ranger Regiment, will be the host for this event and any funds raised will go to the Fund to support wounded Rangers.
For those unfamiliar with the charity, Lead The Way Fund, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization established to raise funds in support of disabled U.S. Army Rangers and the families of Rangers who have died, have been injured or are currently serving in harm’s way around the world. Lead The Way Fund, Inc. will provide spouses and children of deceased, disabled or active duty Rangers with assistance for health and wellness programs and other services determined to be vital to the family’s well-being, beyond what the government can offer. One of the ways that the Fund raises money is through supporters who raise money running races like the Army Ten-Miler.
If you are looking for a bib for the race and are willing to raise at least $750 for the Fund, there are still slots available on the Fund’s team. If interested in running contact the Fund before August 19.
On October 8th, at 1800 the Highline Restaurant in Crystal City, Virginia will be the Rally Point for Rangers to celebrate the work that the Fund is doing in support of wounded Rangers and Rangers in need. Whether you are running for the Fund, running on your own or with another team, or not running at all, if you are a Ranger come out and share in the evening with fellow Rangers and their families and hear stories of triumph and recovery thanks to the great work the Fund is doing for Rangers.
The cost of the evening is $45 and will include food and an open bar. Tickets are limited and are available through this LINK. These tickets will sell out so don’t wait until the last minute to get your ticket!
In addition to a great dinner surrounded by Rangers, a fellow Ranger’s wife has donated her motorcycle for raffle for the evening. We will be raffling off a 2003 Harley-Davidson XLH Sportster 883 Hugger Anniversary Addition.* This beautiful Anniversary Edition Harley Davidson is in perfect condition with less than 5000 miles. Tickets are available through the same LINK as the dinner tickets.
You do not have to be present to win, so even if you can’t make it to dinner please buy raffle tickets for a chance to win this beautiful motorcycle and to support wounded Rangers through the Fund. The winner will be drawn on October 8th at the dinner.
For any questions about the dinner, or if interested in sponsoring, please contact the organizer for the evening Ranger Lee Dougherty at (202) 888-2104 or via email at LDougherty@mft-law.com

The Code of Support Foundation provides essential and critical one-on-one assistance to struggling service members, veterans and their families with the most complex needs.
COSF has three programs, each designed to achieve our vision of bridging the military civilian divide.
Case Coordination Program
Code of Support Foundation’s team of trained case coordinators and veteran peer navigators provide personalized, comprehensive, long-term assistance to struggling service members, veterans and their families (SMVF) as they transition into civilian life. We serve all generations of SMVF’s across the nation, regardless of discharge status.
PATRIOTlink™
PATRIOTlink, is a cloud-based resource navigation platform designed by service providers for service providers. The strategically populated provider assistance tool empowers service providers to easily navigate and find resources for the service members, veterans and families they are assisting. This allows a service provider to perform searches that result in resources their client qualifies for, significantly reducing the amount of time it takes to find the often multiple resources their client needs.
Education & Engagement Program
Code of Support Foundation works to build America’s public awareness of the service and sacrifice of our military, veterans and their families through its education and engagement program. Most people want to help but they don’t know how. COSF provides engagement opportunities using a variety of platforms to move civilians from caring, to committed and involved.
